The 3-year-old: Fears of new situations, the dark, dogs, scary noises, and separation from parents may continue. New fears revolve around the child’s developing imagination. Fear of monster is common.

I remember that from when I was younger :-) However I didn't fear monsters :-D

when i was children i was most of time without my parents so i was used to not be fear in some situations ;-)

I forgot my past but i agree with this statement when i see small babies crying when met strangers and call their mother for help. Fear is a natural thing and you can't control it till your death.
