Idea behind Thumbs Up

What do the Thumbs Up do and what exactly was the idea behind it? Currently I got one Thumb Up but I don't get the point (as I can't check anything on it) or find more about the Ranking?

The idea behind the "Thumb up" feature is to express affection to another member,
Just like the "Like" on Facebook, just more like for the person.

Members usually "Thumb up" another member if he helped them or if they just like or know him,
When you see a member with high amount of "Thumbs up" you can know that he is helpful, popular or just nice.

Thanks for the answers. Can you explain the Ranking? It said it will help the user's ranking? What do I need to understand under that?

At the moment Thumbs Up feature is just for thanking someone who helped you. We will try our best to improve this.
