Sharia is Muslim law. The guidance from the holy Quran is not extreme, but can be easily pulled out of context and misinterpreted. Also, the quran does not contain specifics on different information, the specifics are provided through the sayings of mohammad, called hadiths.. For example, there are only about 5-6 lines in the quran, but about 4000 lines specify on prayer in the books of Hadith. Sharia can't be justified without an infallible leading it. Compulsion is not allowed by the way, because the followers are not understanding why they are doing what they're forced to do. Sharia by the rules of Mohammad is very just and beautiful actually. For example, hand cutting nowadays can be very extreme, but Mohammad brought 19 conditions to pass before cutting the hand of a theif.. Ex: the person can't be mentally retarded, there has to be 2 witnesses, the person couldn't be compelled to steal, if the person's intention was good, let the person go, etc. And I have seen aladin, that might be what is happening today, but it is not true sharia. Think about it like communism; it might sound like a good idea, but leaders in places like china and Russia became too powerful and brought injustice. Hope this helped.
