They are just there for your profile, some of them come with a bonus of coins into your account and some are just there to have. :)

Today, I was mistakenly given a badge for earning 500 coins in one day. I only earned a few coins today. I have over 500 coins but they were acquired over the last two weeks! This badge must be meant for someone else!

No, it's yours, because our system counts your PayPerClick offers as 1 coin each (even though it's less than that).
